Fierce
fighting between Afghan troops and the Taliban continues in various provinces
of Afghanistan, with Afghan officials claiming heavy casualties in recent
attacks by security forces in the northern province of Badakhshan.
A spokesman for the governor of Badakhshan
says the Taliban's advance has forced 2,300 Afghan soldiers fleeing across the
border into Tajikistan, leaving their strongholds in and around Badakhshan's
capital, Faizabad, to return to duty.
Dozens of
Afghan soldiers who crossed the border on Sunday were airlifted to a nearby
border area to return to their positions, the foreign news papers quoted
sources in Tajikistan as saying.

The Taliban have so far captured 26 of
Badakhshan's 28 districts, according to a local Afghan politician.
On the other
hand, for a complete border blockade with Afghanistan, Tajikistan has also
deployed 20,000 reserve troops on the border.
The Pentagon
says the US withdrawal from Afghanistan is more than 90 percent complete.
Clashes between
the Taliban and Afghan security forces intensified with the withdrawal of
foreign troops in Afghanistan.
Western
security officials say the Taliban have taken control of one-third of
Afghanistan's 421 districts.

Taliban claim control of more than 200 districts in Afghanistan's 34 provinces.
As the

The Afghan
Taliban seized the main border crossing with Tajikistan, ousting Afghan forces
from border posts.
According to foreign media, the Afghan Taliban
captured Sherkhan Bandar, an area near the Tajik border, 50km from Kunduz city,
and evicted Afghan forces from border posts.
One Afghan
soldier was killed and four others were injured in the attack.
According to
the Tajik National Security Committee, more than 100 Afghan soldiers crossed
the border, and the Tajik border guards allowed Afghan troops to cross the
border, citing humanity and good neighborliness.
Afghan
officials say large-scale operations are being prepared to recapture the area.
The Kunduz Chamber of Commerce says the Taliban have confiscated all goods at
the dry port and destroyed the customs office.
On the other
hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that no damage was done to the
port and they are working to make the port operational again.
